PwDs obtain disability certificates
Hundred and twenty Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) received medical certificates ascertaining their
disability during the medical camp organised by FAsCE India in Basar division of West Siang district,
Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the medical team of District Hospital, Aalo. The camp was
conducted at SFS School, Basar, the zonal office of FAsCE India, on Nov 28, 2014.
A team of expert doctors from District Hospital, Aalo, and CHC, Basar, led by Dr Marbom Basar,
the district medical officer, piloted the camp. Many people with disability and other patients
availed the opportunity meant to obtain disability certificates for the PwDs of the area.
The doctors identified 120 PwDs and issued medical disability certificates to them during the camp.
Mr Marjum Bam, the president of Disabled People’s Organisation (DPO), welcomed everyone and highlighted
the importance of the day. Speaking on the ocassion, Mr D Apang, the Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC)
of Basar, appreciated FAsCE India for organising the event and exhorted everyone to make maximum use of the opportunity.
Dr Basar, welcoming the gathering and thanking FAsCE India for the noble task, requested the organisation
to work beyond Basar area and reach out to greater population. Dr L Karga, the dental surgeon, CHC Basar,
spoke of the importance of main-streaming PwDs.
FAsCE India takes care of 25 villages of Basar Sub Division through Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) program,
guided by CBR Forum, Bangalore. A number of trainings on livelihood programs and income generation activities have already been
organised for the PwDs at SFS School, Basar.
In an exclusive session, Fr Thomas Paul, msfs, the zonal director, briefed the doctors, CBR staff members and the block level
DPO office bearers regarding the activities of FAsCE India and thanked them for their cooperation and service in accomplishing
the dream of procuring certificates for the PwDs.
Dr K Rina, orthopedic surgeon, Dr T Kena, senior MD, Dr E Basar, ENT, Dr B Bam, ophthalmologist, and Dr Regnya Taso,
orthopaedic surgeon, from Aalo and Dr Doli Geyi, MO, from Basar, were the other doctors part of the medical team.
The disability certificates were distributed to the recipients on Dec 4, 2014, on the occasion of the celebration
of World Disability Day by Mr Gogen Gadi, the PWD minister, Arunachal Pradesh.
